  • Can I join more than one group; and or can groups help one another?
No. You are only allowed to join one group, and cannot help any other group with any parts of their entries.
  • If my entry is basically done, but I won't make it to the deadline because of the render time, or AE decided to crash on me, can I send you guys a DM with render progress or ask for an extension?"
Nope. We will not be giving any extensions this year. While we can empathize with technology being unpredictable, you are responsible for your time management and preparation. Always plan for things to run amok and give yourselves ample buffer time.
  • Can my team make a promo video?
    Yes, of course!
  • Can members from groups that have dropped or been eliminated join groups that are still in the CB?
Yes! As long as your group still has a swap pass available, you may swap in a member from a previously-participating group into yours. Please keep in mind that consent for this must occur between the two groups before the swap.
  • Can my team sing songs in any language?
Yes! This has been outlined in our song guidelines. As long as you provide us with a link to an English translation for songs that are not English, then it is fine to sing in any language.
  • So, about the creativity judging... Does my group have to be judged on creativity?"
No. This is an optional scoring that teams can choose to participate in. On the entry submission form, you will be asked if you would like to be judged on creativity or not. You can also opt out of the creativity scoring at any point (for example, if you said yes in stage one, you can say no in stage two).
  • I feel like I'm not seeing certain information on the website when I'm on mobile?
We have tried our best to optimize the layout of our website for mobile, however the website will always work best from a desktop computer. If you feel as though you are experiencing anything unusual, or if information is unavailable on the mobile version of our website, you are more than welcome to send us a message at anytime to let us know. We can only investigate the issues and troubleshoot once we are aware of them.
  • What methods of contact can I give Ascension when I sign up?
Discord, Twitter, or Email. Keep in mind that your chosen method of contact has to be open to public DM and used regularly; We will not be held responsible if we cannot contact you, or if you see our messages too late.
  • If my group drops-out of Ascension, but still posts a video of our entry, can we still get judged on it?"
No. You've dropped out. You are therefore no longer eligible to be judged or recieve critique, and sponsors will not complete a scoring sheet for your group; HOWEVER We do encourage you to finish your entry, even if you decide to drop out. We will still take the time to watch it, as hard work never goes unnoticed with us. :)
  • Can we use sprite edits in our entries?
No; the sprite bases are not your own. This could fall under plagiarism and art sponsors reserve the right to dock points in their department.
  • If my group isn't sure if the art they made is traced or just referenced, what can we do?"
Ascension welcomes contestants to send us a message to ask. Tracing is an extremely serious offense, big or small. If you are unsure if what was created is considered traced or not, or too scared or shy to voice it to your group, please send us a message with the art and what was used as referencethe end of the stage you are competing in. We will review what you sent, and get back to you as soon as possible. We would rather you be honest with us and try to fix any issues before submitting your entry so that you can avoid being disqualified for a rectifiable mistake.
